Smart - The Lyrical PD

'My mom sometimes attends our music shows without me knowing and she would be in the crowd cheering' says the 26 year old Mulenga Mumbi alias Smart the Lyrical PD.

Mulenga, who is a holder of a Bachelor of Science in Environment and Natural Resources Management from the University of Zambia, UNZA, shares how growing up in Zingalume, Lusaka helped him identify his love for music.

He remembers how George Mumba, The Rap Lewandoski, a high school close colleague, introduced him to rap music whilst at Moomba Boarding School. The high school fame was enough to propel him to consider taking up rap music seriously. Some of the friends that supported his craft include Fransis Kaira, Bright Hamwala, Maxwell Mwiitwa, Martha and Maria, Nanku, Osborne, Emmanuel Kamwendo and Mary Shumba.

Contrary to popular belief that hip hop artists, particularly rappers have a love for profanity, hate, violence and crime, Mulenga uses this genre of music which originated from Bronx, New York,USA as a tool to educate other young people. He contends that there is a general mischaracterisation of artists that rap and that not every rapper abuses drugs.

Music to Mulenga is a secondary hobby that he enjoys in his free time. If he doesn't pursue music as a full-time career,he definitely would have something equally fulfilling running. He enjoys support from his mother and the rest of the family.

The rapper took part in a music competition by Zilile Beatz, a homegrown outfit that supports and promotes upcoming artists. He is among the 8 upcoming artists featured on the Zilile Beatz compilation project being produced by M.Beats Entertainments Limited.

Mulenga is excited to feature on this compilation project and is grateful to Zilile Beatz for their continued support in nurturing and supporting young talent.
